What is your take on NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg's ban on sugary drinks? Do you think the government should have a say in what we eat? Why or why not? What are some positive aspects of the ban?
I stand a neutral postion on this because on one hand the government is wrong for violating people civil libertie, which is freedom of speach. you can't do that because everyone is intitle to have a say. but i also think the government should ban it because it cause many people to have diebeties. Also banning children would help them to stay much more healthy rather than getting sick off of unhealthy food. So this ban has its good and its bad if you really look into it.

ReplyDeleteKhalil; I feel that mayor Bloomberg is taking a step in the right direction to help slow down the rate of obesity. The government should be able to have a say on what we eat because they don't want our city to b looked at as obese and they want other people to know tht were healthy. And try also want New Yorkers to b more healthy. Positive aspects are tht the obesity rate will go down te negative effect is that companies will make less money
ReplyDeleteIrvin: I think that mayor Bloomberg should ban supersize drinks because without taking out big drinks it shows that they don't care about us and are letting our selfs get obese, if we continue to keep buying these drinks we are just going to get even fatter and the rate of diabetes will go up in the United States.
ReplyDeleteChris England: I agree with mayor Bloomberg's ban in soda because we would have a healthier city. But i don't think the government should have a say on what we eat or drink because then it would look like the mayor is trying to control the public on what they eat. One positive aspect from the ban is the public would be less soda in the stores or deli's
ReplyDeleteRochelle Green : I agree with the ban on sugary drinks b/c it will limit sources where people can by oversized drinks. I do not think the government should have a say in what we eat but i do think it is ok for them to limit the distribution of unhealthy food.People should indeed be able to eat what they like, it's a natural right. Positive aspects of this ban is a healthier america , it protects people from hurting themselves.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the ban in soda because the city and everyone in the New York State would be healthy. Soda can cause a lot of damage to your body and could also lead to more medical problems. It's not the governments decision to decide what we should eat because it's our decision. Banning soda could be a good thing which means less medical problems and you'll be healthy.
ReplyDeletei agree with the ban on sugary drinks because with sugary drinks being taken away then everyone in NYC will be healthier. i don't think the government should have say in what we eat, but i think that we the people should know whats healthy and what is not healthy to eat. Positive aspects of this ban will be the obesity rate will decrease and NYC will be more healthier.
ReplyDeleteAmanda De Candia: i do agree with the ban that we cannot buy oversized drinks but not tell us what we can and can't have but i do feel that bloomberg is just trying to refine our generation and get us healthy, doing as much as he can to benefit new york.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with the ban , because with oversized sugary drinks NYC would become so much healthier . But I don't think the government should have a say in what we eat , because thats none of their business .. Some positive aspects of this ban would be less obese citizens ..
ReplyDeleteI think the the ban on any sugary drinks is a good thing because it would encourage people not to consume more then 12oz of soda or sugary drinks . Banning sugary drinks will also lower the percentage of obesity and will also lower everyone's risk of diabetes . I think New york will benefit from a ban of sugary drinks . The government should i have a say in what we eat because what they say helps us and when they're saying ban sugary drinks they're trying to lower the percentage of obesity and risk of diabetes
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Ban on sugary drink because its choosing to make the right decisions by making healthier drink choices. This effect will make NY less obesity and more healthier. The obesity rate will slowly go down if New Yorkers were to make the right decisions on drinks. I think the government should have a say in what we eat because there trying to make the city not look mostly Obesity but mostly healthy. There trying to help us make positive decisions in our life.
ReplyDeleteI kind of agree and disagree with what the mayor is saying, but i mostly disagree. I say that because I think EVERYONE should have the right to say whatever and do what ever they want. This is a violation of Freedom of speech and that to me is uncalled for.I understand about the unhealthy facts about the drinks , but people should have right to choose if they would like to be obese. No I don't think the government should have a say in what we eat.I say that because we should have the choice to do what we want to do and what we want to say.
ReplyDeletei dont agree with the soda ban. the Govt or mayor doesnt have the right to say what we can eat and what we cant. its bad enough they tax us for every check we get. personally i will be against this. everyday i have a vanilla coke and i couldnt care what people think. its my decision on what goes into my body. all in all sugary drinks shouldn't be banned
ReplyDeleteI agreee but than i also disagree with the soda ban, i disagree with it because i believe it kinda foes violate our civil liberties we pay taxes we should have the decision to consume what we want and the amounts that we would like it in even if it shall be unhealthy people must learn to gain self control .
ReplyDeleteMayor bloomberg should banned sugary drinks. I agree with the ban of sugar on the fact that its to prevent people from getting diabetes but i disagree because it violates peoples civil liberties.
ReplyDeletei think the ban is a good way to get people to think about there healthy and in one way is good but the government is robing people mayor Bloomberg say he not stoping you of buying to drink you can by to the price of on 20liter is more the you buying to smaller cup there find way to take your money
ReplyDeleteI agree in mayor Bloombergs plan into banning soda because it is a role if a health department to protect the public from the hazards the soda have caused, such as diabetes and other sickness it is great step into making people a lot healthier.
ReplyDeletesaja burt , i agree with mayor bloombergs ban on sugary drinks. Because if stores keep selling these drink more people are likely to become obesity and have diabetes. The good aspects out of this would be less people dying from obesity and getting diabetes
ReplyDeleteI don't agree on the ban on sugar I feel like the government is trying to control every aspect of everyone's life. And we're suppose to have our own freedom. If I drink a super large juice then I know what I'm doing I know I can gain weight or get a cavity but that's on me I can work out or drink lots of water after it everyone should have the right to make there own decision whether its good or not you have to learn from your mistak
ReplyDeletei do agree on mayor bloombergs decision on banning the soft drinks .. if he bands it , it will save money and save lives, it can mke us healthier to make a change in the world with obesity in adults and children but i dont think that he should have a say on what we have to eat .. like what if it was poisonous he was telling us to eat so we can all die.
ReplyDeleteRichard Troncoso: i agree with the ban for over size drinks because it will help people make a healthier choice. In 2010 20% of people in the city of new york are obese. Also i think the government should have a say because there helping us making healthier choices and help stop obesity and diabetes fron spreading.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the ban of oversized sugary drinks because it will benefit our health in many ways. Now a days everyone is so used to fast food restaurants and advertisements that are clearly not good for us but thats all we seem to crave anyway. Having this ban will decrease the rate of obesity and help prevent people from getting diabetes. I however do not agree that the government should have a say in what we eat or drink but atleast make us more aware of what we are consuming
ReplyDeleteAlthough I do agree that oversized drinks are causing a lot of health problems to the people of NYC, I don't think banning the drinks would help. It would just cause people to protest and create a whole another problem. The best we can do is just encourage people to make better choices.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mayor Bloomberg's ban on sugary drinks. It's not like he is banning every soft drink out there, just certain sizes so people won' take in so much sugar. He is looking out for the health of NYC. Although the government should have no say in what we eat. There are many positive aspects that come out of this ban. People can get healthier, this ban can make them want to drink water instead. Obesity rates would decrease. This ban could also help problems of diabetes. Many reasons can support the positive aspects of this ban.
ReplyDeleteAt the risk of being "that guy" I'm leaning on the side that Mayor Palpatine-er I mean Bloomberg is right on the one hand, but banning beverages over a specific size won't do much. All it'll actually do is just get people to get more refills or make the fast food companies more money by selling people more drinks. Either way, big companies win and there's going to be a faction among us that'll complain.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I don't agree with the fact that it'll be a law against oversized drinks. If you're gonna be banning stuff that's band for you, you might as well ban raw oysters, rare burgers, and the like. Why stop there? You might as well also ban cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, GM foods (which is most of the grocery store), and the vast majority of fast food restaurants.
Really now, if you wanna ban stuff that's not good for yourself and others, then get it all down. Don't make an uneven implementation. If I want an oversized drink, I can just go down to 7/11 and get it. 7/11 makes more profit since more people want a big-ass drink to go with their already heart-attack inducing fast food meal. #MURICA
I am kinda undecided on what side to pick, i feel that it is a good idea to ban over sized drinks because it will prevent alot of future health issues for people and people would possibly live longer and feel healthier, but then i disagree because i feel that the government shouldnt have a say in what we drink , we could make our own decision.
ReplyDeleteMy take on NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg's ban on sugary drinks is that im for the ban on 16 ounce sodas in fast food restruant. Statistics shows the majority people who live in nyc are obese. By banding sodas over 16 ounces over fast food resturants could lead to people to changing their diet quickly. This can lead to a positive in nyc's health problem.
ReplyDeleteNo, i don't think the government should have a say in what we eat because us people should control what we eat.
The positive aspects of the ban is that people should change there eating habits
If the government wants to help society get healthy then they should ban high caffeine energy drinks as Tabasco related products. This is obviously a publicity stunt. Used to manipulate the economy
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the beverage ban because its taking away the people's choice. If a person wants to consume over 16 oz of soda they should be able to. Its also inconsistent with some companies being excluded from the ban.
ReplyDeleteI agree and disagree with the beverage Ban. On the one hand it will allow citizens to make healthier decisions that will help prevent obesity, At the same time it is regulating how much people can drink of what they want to drink. Overall if I had to pick aside I would agree
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mayor Bloomberg's ban on sugary drinks. I don't think the government should be involved because people are being given a limit on what their consuming. Some positive aspects of the ban is that it would put a decrease in the obesity of the people. Also lower the risk of diabetes and make people healthier and more active.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bloomberg's ban on sugary drinks. Although I wish all establishments including 7/11 and others were forced to abide by the ban too. This is not to hurt us but help us. It'll train our mind and stomachs about portion control and we may apply it elsewhere as well, potentially eradicating our high obesity rates.
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with Bloomberg's ban on sugary drinks because, healthy or not we should be able to consume what we want. This is just another way that the government is trying to control more and more of what people do. The ban does have some positive aspects. It is to prevent obesity and to lower the diabetes rate .
ReplyDeleteI think the ban is a good idea because it can lower the rate of minors obesity and push people to have healther choices in the diet . But I think that the goverment should not have a say in what we eat and drink because 1st they are violating our rights and they are trying to control us . Sooner or later we are not gping to have the right to use the. Public bathroom without paying a fee . But there is some good into this and some bads . -Na'Daije Gresham
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the ban because the government shouldn't have a say in what we drink because yea kids become overweight each year but my opinion is that I feel that's a decision that people decide to do ,so jus cause a couple of people made a wrong decision or got a little greedy doesn't mean everybody should get punished.

I think the band is good because it will stop the obese in America. The United States have the most obese people in the world. What I disgree on is that some stores are allowed to still sell any size of drinks they want this should go for each and every store
ReplyDeleteI agree with Major Bloomberg's decision to ban soda because he os worried about the public health in New York and we are currently in an epidemic. We are currently leading the world of the most obese people and the most diabetic people. One thing that i disagree with this decision is that the people have the right to eat/drink what ever they wish to consume

ReplyDeleteHi This Is Fernando Lainez. i think that Beverage Ban is a good idea because its for the better of New Yorkers. Too many people are getting obese and they are getting diabetes, and it jeopardize the next generation of new yorkers and Mayor Bloomberg paid 4 billion a year and obesity keeps getting worst each year. if you want more soda go buy more.
ReplyDeletei agree on the ban on sugar bacuse it is killing people with out them knowing they dont even put warning signs on the drinks that can kill u idk y but they need to because obesity is killing alot of our neighbors in our community but we need to warm these people about wat they putting in their body .
ReplyDeleteI can understand why they would consider baning sugar because its bad for you but i for one think that it make some drinks taste really good so i think no. Sugar should not be baned
